About Biman Bangladesh Airlines

Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited is a national flag carrier. It was established as a corporate body under the Bangladesh Biman Ordinance (Presidential Order No. 126) on 4 January 1972 under the name Bangladesh Biman Corporation. The BBA was transformed into a state-owned non-governmental organization in July 2007, although it is still 100% owned by the government.

Initially, it started with a gift from the Air Force with a World War II vintage Dakota, DC-3. With the DC-3, the airline’s domestic services began within a month. The plane crashed on a test flight shortly after takeoff. The aircraft then purchased two used F-27 aircraft, which soon flew to Chittagong and Sylhet. International flights began on March 4, 1972, with a charged aircraft from British Caledonian.

Most of the destinations of the aircraft are served by direct or single stop service. Convenient transfer links are easily available from Dhaka to regional destinations like Kolkata, Kathmandu, and Yangon.

Biman has its own accessories and maintenance facilities including Biman Flight Catering Center, Biman Engineering Hanger, and Biman Poultry Complex. Airlines reservation systems, departure control, and other communication systems are fully computerized.
